An advanced class for violinists

To be a musician is almost like being a magician. You have to do certain things that the listener doesn't know about and that's not easy to do.

Generations of Musicians

The virtuoso Romanian-born violinist has a soulful tone that speaks of generations of music tradition in his own family – and a staggering technique refined through years of classical music. His playing is magic.

His father played the violin and was the director of a traditional Roma orchestra. His mother came from generations of musicians passed from father to son. The two families came together with the marriage of Lache’s dad who was studying with his mom’s grandfather Christian Codolban. It was a union that continued the long legacy of music in the Cercel family.

“Music is my language. It’s my way of life.”

Why LEarn with Lache?

Lache Cercel is able to bring together his first hand knowledge of Roma addition to world music with Western Music.

Before settling in Canada in 1998 was one of Romania’s most highly regarded classical musicians (trained at the Academy of Arts in Bucharest).

In the years that followed Lache has surrounded himself with high caliber professional musicians who have learned both his style in conjunction with their Western musical backgrounds.

Together they have given birth to a new style called Roma Jazz and that is the focus of his classes – to teach this unique perspective to his students.

Lache will help YOU communicate in the language he knows best – music.

The Performance Mindset

Music notation is just a guide and the final freedom is being able to perform without the music. In that situation your own soul speaks through the instrument.

When you approach a new piece, it’s nice to look at the music to see what’s going on but the focus in the classes to to see an arrangement – by ear.

Lache uses classical shifting and fingerings and combines that with the style of Roma jazz.

He makes sure that the  fingerings you use are comfortable for you. And then once the fingerings are comfortable you only play those fingerings.

And then comes the repetition.

What does this do? It means that the song stays in your head all the time so that when you let a piece go, let’s say, for a year or two and you want to come back to it, the fingerings and bowing are like a copy in your brain.

Find your own soulful tone.
